Overview
The Bullet Related Injury Clinic (BRIC) offers trauma care and holistic healing to those affected by bullet injuries in the St. Louis community. During BRIC visits, patients focus on addressing their physical, psychological, or social needs, including bullet removal, wound care, talk therapy, physical therapy, spiritual care, and more. The BRIC, with its novel model for treatment, aims to foster a network of providers to replicate the BRIC model through the BRIC Institute.
The BRIC is partnering with the Evaluation Center to analyze three years’ worth of pilot data and develop evaluation plans for both the BRIC and the BRIC Institute.
Project Description
Background
The Bullet Related Injury Clinic (BRIC) is a community-based clinic in St. Louis that helps people and their families heal after they have been injured by a bullet. The BRIC was established to help people who are discharged home from the emergency department after being shot, especially young Black men who are disproportionately affected by gun violence. The BRIC’s goal is to provide low-barrier, timely, and culturally competent support to survivors of bullet-related injury (BRI) and to reduce unplanned return visits to the emergency department. Additionally, the BRIC team is supporting other healthcare providers to implement BRICare through a convening and training, called the BRIC Institute.
The Evaluation Center is partnering with the BRIC to assess their existing pilot data and to conduct evaluation planning. Both methods will enable the BRIC to better tell their story and communicate their impact at the BRIC Institute convening in fall 2024. Data collection instruments from the evaluation plans will be prioritized and developed to understand the impact of the work of the BRIC Clinic and the codification and expansion of the BRIC model through the BRIC Institute.
